Auditor/Educator – Medical Coding

A top-ranked large physician network is seeking an Auditor and Educator of Medical Coding (O/P) responsible for coding compliance auditing and education of medical providers and billing staff on proper coding rules. Responsibilities include:
-Conducting routine auditing and analyzing of medical records to ensure coding is supported by documentation; reviews findings with audited providers and educates as necessary when deficiencies are found.
-Educating physicians, clinicians, and billing staff on changes to coding standards and regulatory compliance, and advocates proper medical record documentation practices.
-Conducting individual and enterprise-wide education sessions on annual coding and/or reimbursement changes.
-Working with individual divisions and the revenue cycle team to update charge master entries and documentation, billing practices upon release of annual CPT changes.
-Working closely with the revenue cycle team to address denial and other coding challenges identified through claim edits and payer remittance files.
Researches, analyzes, recommends, and facilitates plan of action to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors.
-Keeps current on all coding related regulations, standards, guidelines, industry trends and Medicare announcements.
-Serves as a coding subject matter expert and resource for all payers. Extensive knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes.
Job Skills and Experience:
-Certified Professional Coder (CPC) highly desired.
-Solid understanding of the laws and regulations associated with medical record documentation, code and modifier selection, and medical billing processes.
-Demonstrated ability to teach effectively to a wide range of comprehension levels, preferably in a multispecialty pediatric setting.
-Familiar with local region commercial insurances, HMO’s, Medicaid and Medicare.
-Involvement in local or national AAPC desired.
-A highly organized and detail-oriented self-starter with an outstanding work ethic and desire to succeed.
-Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
-Outstanding computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
-Ability to apply project management skills to meet goals and objectives.
