VA Medical Coder (Bethesda, MD)
Full TimeIMS is a Woman-Owned Business, is seeking certified Anesthesia Medical Coders to support our Federal Customers.
Full Time & Part Time Remote Position.
Full/Part Time Remote Certified Medical Coding Position
· Coder must be a current Certified Medical Coder(s), Certified Coding Specialists (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist(s)-Physician based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder(s) (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator(s), (RHIA) and Registered Health Information Technician(s) (RHIT), coder must submit proof of current certification annually.
· Coder must currently have or had past DOD experience to code, recode, abstract, analyze and assemble medical record data to code for Anesthesia, (will train for DHA/DOD requirements).
· Coder must be able to accurately assign ICD-10 CM, E/M, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers and units based on provider and other qualified healthcare professional documentation, based on DHA Anesthesia Guidance.
· Coder must be able to maintain and follow applicable information that the DoD systems and/or software requires for Multi-specialty Outpatient Clinical encounters, Same day surgeries, Inpatient Stays (Rounds). For Anesthesia coding, the applicant will be provided access to the electronic medical records system.
· (AHLTA), Coding Compliance Editor (CCE), Composite Health Care System (CHCS), ESSENTRIS, HAIMS, JLV and other necessary, non-electronic, hard copy files will be properly used for all coding needs. If training is needed the IMS staff will perform this training unless notified differently.
· Coder will review and code for each Anesthesia encounter within 48 business hours of receipt of record/encounter. All deficiencies or identified needed information will be communicate to the designated POC via email and managers will be copied on all email traffic within this required time. Coders are required to follow up daily to meet the compliance for each Anesthesia encounter/record.
· Coder must be able to a code encounter at a minimum accuracy of 97%. A 97% accuracy is a requirement and will be monitored weekly to monthly. Coder will review and answer each audit with a agree or rebuttal of their identified audits. All corrections will be made immediately after agreeing or rebuttals are finalized.
· Coder is responsible for completing training on all government systems and all designated annual and short notice training once assigned to the MTF.
· Coder is preferred to have at least 2 years DOD/VA coding experience. Must have at least 3 years coding experience.
· Coder must have or must be able to secure a DOD security clearance without a 24-month break in service from government service. Must not have been unfavorably removed from a government position.
· Coder must work independently with little to no supervision.
Workdays and workhours are flexible. But must meet the employment status as directed by the Site Manger/Assistant Site Manager or Team Lead.
· Good oral and written communication skills required.
· Must be able to work with all Windows 10 and Microsoft applications. Must maintain government computer equipment in a secure and clean environment.
· Ability to meet deadline and suspense as required daily, this duty must be met or emails notifying management of the reason the deadline is not being met are required as part of the coder position.
· Applicant must have a private and secure area to work to protect PHI/PII and meet HIPAA requirements.
· Applicant must maintain all required training on an annual basis or as required by the government. Applicant must have and maintain annually a certification through AAPC or AHIMA. Applicant must be ICD-10 certified.
· Full time coders will communicate to management their hours in writing and will communicate if they are unable to meet that schedule. All time off other than sick time will be submitted in ADP and email to the manager two (2) weeks prior to scheduled time off. All emails will be answered in a designated time based on work schedule.

This position with support the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, MD so candidates in the surrounding DMV are encouraged to apply.
*Candidate is responsible for 1 week orientation/onboarding at the location if selected for this position.
The coders have to be certified. CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT.’
